BANNER BEAM SENSOR MINI-BEAM SM315W-4 Wire
The BANNER Mini-Beam SM315W-4 is a compact photoelectric sensor designed for industrial applications where precise object detection or position sensing is required. Photoelectric sensor, specifically a through-beam sensor where a separate emitter and receiver are used to detect objects passing between them.
BANNER Mini-Beam SM315W-4:
- Detection Principle: The SM315W-4 uses infrared light emitted from the transmitter (emitter) to detect the presence or absence of objects by receiving the light with the receiver. When an object interrupts the light beam, the sensor registers the presence of the object.
- Wire Configuration: The “4 wire” designation typically refers to the electrical wiring of the sensor:
- Ground (GND): Connected to the common ground of the power supply.
- NPN Output (OUT): Provides a sinking NPN transistor output, which switches to ground when the sensor detects an object. Requires an external load connected to a positive voltage supply to operate (commonly referred to as PNP sourcing).
- Power Supply (+V): Usually connected to a DC voltage supply, typically within the range of 10-30V DC.
Wiring Configuration:
- Power Supply Connection:
- Connect the positive (+) terminal of the power supply to the sensor’s +V terminal.
- Connect the negative (-) terminal of the power supply to the sensor’s GND terminal.
- Output Connection:
- Connect the external load (e.g., a relay or PLC input) between the sensor’s OUT terminal and the positive voltage supply (+V).
- When the sensor detects an object, the output (OUT) will switch to ground (GND), activating the connected load.
